I have underfloor heating can a rug be put on top?

When placing any rug on underfloor heating loss of heat will be noticed, as you are insulating the floor. Some rugs may may not be suitable for underfloor heating, you should enquire before purchasing. Please contact us for tog ratings of the rugs.

Will sunlight in a conservatory fade the rug?

All wool rugs will fade in direct sunlight, the more sunlight the rug is exposed to the quicker they will fade. When windows are all the way to the floor this when the rug will suffer the most. To avoid premature fading, close blinds or curtains when the room is not in use. Also to note is some rugs which have latex in them may not be suitable for high doses of sunlight as this will dry the latex out and make the rug stiff and possibly dusty. Please ask for advice if required.

Do we require underlay?

If the rug is to be placed on a wooden floor then yes you will definitely require underlay. Underlay will in the first instant stop the rug from moving around. It will also help to protect your floor and the backing on your rug.

Please Note that in certain instances it may be necessary for the underlay to be supplied in more than one piece depending on the size required. This will in no way affect the performance of the underlay.

If we like a rug but the size is not available can this be made?

Yes, Any Indian and Pakistan quality can be made to special order. You can even have your own design made. There is virtually no limit to the size but the largest loom available is approx 50ft by 30ft.

PROVENANCE OF FRITHRUGS

As one of the UKs biggest importer of rugs and carpets, FrithRugs is keen to ensure that the products we sell have been produced to the highest standards and without exploitation.

FrithRugs imports its products directly from the manufacturer and several times a year we visit manufacturers and weaving areas. In order to supply FrithRugs we insist that manufacturers conform to strict ethical policies which include the criteria than no child or slave labour is used in the production of rugs and carpets. We also make unannounced and random visits to carpet looms and weaving areas on a regular basis to ensure that our policies are enforced.

FrithRugs fully supports and endorses GoodWeave International (the international non-profit organization devoted to ending child labour in the handmade carpet industry in South Asia). We believe this is an excellent system for smaller importers and wholesalers; however it is our experience that on some occasions the GoodWeave International label has been used by suppliers who do not in fact have GoodWeave International status.

Therefore as a company with major purchasing power we feel much more confident in setting out and adhering to our own stringent polices which we can police and enforce. We need to be confident in the provenance of FrithRugs, and so we insist on our own labels which meet our own exacting standards.

IN THE COMMUNITY

FrithRugs has helped establish a school in the main weaving area of Bhadohi in Utta Pradesh, North East India and continues to contribute to the running of this school and its continued expansion.

Note: The majority of Persian rugs are over 25 years old and as such we are not able to determine their provenance.
